Our Mission
To foster children through the gift of education, a greater sense of awareness, confidence, and to have an optimistic outlook on life.
The Jamaican population is made up of 37% children, yet one of every two Jamaican child lives in poverty. BAREFOOT AND FOCUS is a non-profit organization that supports elementary school aged children in the inner city communities on the Caribbean Island of Jamaica. Our vision is to help these children realize their true academic potential. It is our strong belief that education is an essential need to end the cycle of poverty. Education is the path to endless possibilities.
The core of the organization focuses on each child cultivating:
-Academic success, and mastery in the basic skills such as reading, writing, and math
-Effective mentoring relationships with positive adult role models
-Expand world views by facilitating workshops through Internet use and global educators
-Improve rate of attendance in school
Each child will strengthen academic success through a support system comprised by:
-Volunteers: BAREFOOT AND FOCUS will pair each child with a big brother or sister that reflects the child’s interest. This methodology allows the child through real life experiences, find a connection and allow them to have a vision of their own future. Each volunteer will provide invaluable treasures to a child through the gift of friendship, encouragement, and academic support.
–Educators: The primary contributions of volunteer educators of BAREFOOT AND FOCUS are committed to our mission of lending passion, skills, and expertise, to facilitate a safe, academically engaging, and challenging environment for the children.
–Empower Parents: It is imperative that academic expectations are maintained in the home environment. BAREFOOT AND FOCUS will provide resources for parents or guardians to consistently uphold the value of education through on site support.

Every child has that spark and curiosity; with proper support we can ignite that spark in every child through academic excellence and opportunity.
BAREFOOT AND FOCUS will provide substantial academic advancement to the future of Jamaica though their children. We know our charity will change the trajectory of these children’s lives. They will excel and pass their excellence on to their families and communities. With the generous donations of individuals in Toronto, last year 86 children where provided with school supplies in the Kingston community of Hope Flat. Allowing us to be recognized as a registered charity will lend a powerful platform to the voice of those who support equal education rights without regard to socioeconomic influences.
