The Trainer

This is a lifestyle choice. That’s the very first thing I tell my clients in our initial session.  A lifestyle choice that needs a long-term goal, no matter what is, I want you to put it in your head, no matter how outlandish it sounds,  just saying it gives you the power to pursue it. Long-range goals are the ones that matter. They’re the reason you went to Lululemon or Nike and bought all those overpriced exercise outfits. It’s the reason you got in your car and drove to my studio.  You wanted to change, but,  you needed some help, a little guidance, and someone to tell you for the umpteenth time that life isn’t easy and you’re going to have to work at this. So we’ll start with your overarching goal and supplement that with small attainable ones that you can accomplish each session. These goals won’t necessarily be overtly aesthetic though that can be an awesome side effect we’re all thankful for. However, when these smaller goals do add up the person you see looking back at you in the mirror will astound you and give you a new outlook on what you can accomplish inside and outside of the gym. In Malcolm Gladwell’s book Outliers he speaks about the 10,000 hours it takes to become an expert at something. Well in order to become an expert we have to start with the first hour, our first session.

This can only be done when you follow the program I’ve laid out for you both in the gym and at home. Your diet is a crucial element in the equation. You need to start thinking about the choices you make when you’re making meals, having lunch at the office, or out for dinner with friends, all those choices matter. To do this you’ll need the support of family and friends who know what your goals are and encourage you every step of the way. Your journey isn’t about going it alone it’s about using your resources to help you change who you are.

We all need help to become the people we eventually are and we can’t do it alone. People who help us get where we need to be. When I started my journey I wasn’t always as dedicated as I am now it took focus and people who wouldn’t let me quit, people who could care enough to guide me through my journey.  So staying positive and consistent in what we do is a must especially on our worst days and once you’re able to tap into that energy on the days when working out sucks and you have an issue at home, when despite all that you can still eat right come to the gym and work out and get it in. You’ve arrived. It won’t always be easy but it will always be worth it. The Trainer.
